Jug

 

Germany, late 19th century

 

Cast pewter with engraved decoration. Coat of arms with crossed keys and rifles on the body, below with the year 1763 and crowned lions on the sides. Engraved names at the top (Gregor Herbst, Adalbert Falk, Johannes Slama, Sebastian, Werner, Joseph Riedl, Adolph Grimm, Ignatz Wolf, Wenzelans Hlawa). A medallion with a relief engraving of Empress Marie Louise is on the top of the cover. A relief rosette is on the inside base of the jug.

This object dates to the Revivalist period of the late nineteenth century, when interest was rising in objects which imitated older models.
